Drama

After finally posting Shivers, I felt this sudden rush to characterize drama. Like when you finally start running, and that momentum kicks in, all you want to do is to sprint through the wind and gravel with no care for the world. Considering how much time I dwelled over Shivers, I wanted to immediately post something without that perfectionist attitude weighing me down. A speedrun-of-sorts; a milestone to see how far I’ve come in terms of recording, producing, and editing my work, and I’m glad to say that this one felt like a breeze. The process to characterize Drama felt like a much needed reset after a laborious work-season.

The voice for Drama seemed real natural for me to harness. I was coming off a performance of “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, and the level of technicality and musicality that was needed for that comedy was something that I wanted to channel through this skill. That, and to also give me the excuse to keep my Classical British accent sharp. It was a revelation to realize that a lot of Algernon’s swagger and playfulness from the production helped me find the voice for this bombastic fellow.

The sound-design for this one was pretty straightforward. Drama, theaters, the audience, these were all aspects that immediately came to my mind when I was thinking about where this character lived. Whereas Shivers was this completely abstract, metaphysical entity, Drama was a literal being that I could easily identity with. All I cared for this skill was really to see how fast and confident I was working at this point in time. It’s not as polished as compared to Shivers, but I like that little bit of dirt and grit to sound to handle the “essentials” for this space. And if anything else, I’m glad this one got out real fast without rotting in my brain.
